The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program offers incentives for households to upgrade to efficient reverse cycle air conditioners, which can provide both heating and cooling for homes. Only products meeting VEU program standards are eligible for installation under this program. The VEU program features three types of reverse cycle air conditioners. A single-split system includes one outdoor unit connected to one indoor unit, appropriate for heating or cooling a single room or open floor plan area. A multi-split system has one outdoor unit linked to multiple indoor units, suitable for heating or cooling multiple rooms or a whole home. A ducted system comprises one central outdoor unit connected through ducts and vents to multiple indoor rooms, able to heat or cool an entire home.
Work
A reverse cycle air conditioner operates based on the refrigeration cycle. The system reverses the direction of the refrigerant flow to either heat or cool the building. During cooling, refrigerant picks up heat from the air and releases it outside. For heating, the process is reversed – refrigerant absorbs heat outside and releases it inside the building.
Even in freezing weather, the exterior device takes heat from the surrounding air.
